Netflix Acquires InterPositive, Ben Affleck's Stealth AI Venture for Filmmakers

In a significant move blending Hollywood with Silicon Valley, Netflix has acquired InterPositive, an AI technology company quietly founded by actor and director Ben Affleck in 2022. The deal brings Affleck on board as a senior adviser and integrates his entire team into the streaming service.

InterPositive developed proprietary AI tools designed specifically for filmmakers. Its technology, trained on a closed soundstage, focuses on the mechanics of filmmaking—addressing issues like editorial consistency, missing shots, or lighting problems—rather than on actor performance. The aim is to streamline production logistics while keeping creative vision intact.

"I felt a responsibility to protect human creativity," Affleck wrote in a statement. "Technology has always evolved alongside artists. This step with Netflix continues that legacy."

The acquisition arrives amid industry-wide tension over artificial intelligence. To address concerns, Netflix released a discussion video featuring Affleck and top executives. Netflix Chief Content Officer Bela Bajaria emphasized the company's philosophy: "New tools should expand creative freedom, not constrain it. This is about giving filmmakers more control."

For Affleck, whose production company recently signed a first-look deal with Netflix, this represents a deeper, more technological partnership. He has long been a measured voice on AI, arguing it could reduce costs and logistical burdens, thereby lowering barriers for new storytellers.

The purchase is a notable shift for Netflix, which typically builds technology in-house. It signals the streamer's commitment to shaping AI development within an artistic framework, directly from the soundstage to the screen.
